Title: Evidence-Based ayurvedic hair wellness: An integrative model from prevention to regeneration

Abstract

Hair disorders, including androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, premature greying, and dandruff, have emerged as significant global health concerns owing to nutritional deficiencies, chronic stress, hormonal imbalance, environmental pollution, systemic illnesses, and unhealthy lifestyles. Although modern regenerative therapies have demonstrated promising outcomes in stimulating hair growth, achieving sustainable long-term hair wellness requires a comprehensive and individualized approach that addresses the underlying biological and lifestyle determinants.Ayurveda provides a holistic framework for maintaining healthy hair by emphasizing the balance of Doshas, Dhatus, Agni, and Ojas while integrating appropriate dietary practices, lifestyle modifications, and Rasayana therapy. Classical Ayurvedic interventions, including Keshya herbs such as Emblica officinalis (Amla), Eclipta alba (Bhringraj), Glycyrrhiza glabra (Yashtimadhu), Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi), Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Japa) ,Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi), and Tinospora cordifolia (Guduchi), along with Panchakarma procedures, contribute to improving scalp health, reducing oxidative stress, nourishing hair follicles, and supporting physiological hair growth. This presentation proposes an Evidence-Based Integrative Hair Wellness Model that combines classical Ayurvedic principles with contemporary trichology and regenerative medicine. The proposed model incorporates individualized Ayurvedic assessment, trichoscopic evaluation, laboratory-guided nutritional assessment, personalized herbal therapeutics, evidence-based dietary and lifestyle interventions, stress management, and regenerative procedures including Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), Growth Factor Concentrate (GFC), and microneedling for appropriately selected patients. Rather than replacing conventional therapies, these regenerative procedures are integrated with Ayurvedic management to enhance follicular regeneration, optimize scalp microenvironment, improve treatment response, and support long-term maintenance of hair health. The proposed framework emphasizes a paradigm shift from disease-oriented management to preventive, personalized, and regenerative hair wellness. Integrating traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with evidence-based regenerative trichology has the potential to improve patient outcomes, promote sustainable hair care, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and establish future directions for clinical research and global integrative hair wellness practices.
